Homework

Students are expected to read 30 minutes every night!

Homework is important to complete and will be reviewed in class and sometimes graded.  Students will have homework two or three nights a week, in addition to reading 30 minutes every night.  We usually do not assign homework on Wednesdays and Fridays but students need to still read thirty minutes.  Students are responsible for writing their homework down in their agenda.  You may also check our websites for updates on homework.  This will provide you with an opportunity to see what we are studying in class and know your child’s progress.  Check your child’s agenda nightly for any special reminders or notes from us.  Please sign it every night after checking it.

Students are usually given time to start on homework in class.  I encourage students to take homework home even if they finish it at school.  Students are not allowed to turn in homework with out taking it home first.  Feel free to help your student with homework but they must do the thinking and writing.

Homework passes are used as incentives and rewards for students. To redeem the pass students must staple it to the assignment and turn it in with their name on it.  The assignment will be excused from the student's grade.

Reading is Thinking!

One of our goals for the year is to have all students reading books, poems, and/or articles they enjoy.  There are several ways that you can help.  The best way is to read with and around your child.  Studies have proven that reading with your child, even if it is just a few minutes a day, will greatly improve their reading skills and vocabulary.  Reading will also give you the opportunity to spend time together.  When you model that reading is important to you it goes a long way with your student.  Your child should be reading 30 minutes every day at home.  If you need ideas to help your child, please ask.
