Parent-Teacher Communication

I communicate with parents in various ways in order to accommodate parents and better meet the needs of the students.  If you are reading this now you might prefer to email me.  I check and respond to emails multiple times throughout the day.  If you prefer to chat on the phone I can be reached at the school.  I do not talk with parents during lessons (unless it is an emergency) but you can leave a message with the office or ask for my voicemail and I will respond as soon as possible.  The agenda and Take Home Tuesday THT Folder are also a ways that we will communicate regularly. If you prefer to write, jot a note in the agenda, the THT, or send it with your child.  I meet with the parents of each student for a conference after the first quarter.  At this meeting we review your student's progress and sign important paperwork.  Let me know if you want to conference for any other reason and we will schedule a time to meet at school.

Has your contact information changed?

Make sure that you continue to update the school if you have had a change in phone number, address, or email.   Please send your student's teacher an email or note with the new information anytime during the school year.

Take Home Tuesday THT Folder

It is imperative that you are frequently updated on the progress of your student’s performance in class. The Take Home Tuesday THT Folder is our tool to communicate your student’s academic success and behavior. It will be sent home every Tuesday and will be due back on Wednesday or Thursday of the same week.    In the THT folder you will find your student’s work, behavior card, class newsletter, and other announcements and information from the school.   Take some time on Tuesday or Wednesday night to sit down with your student and review the items in the folder. Please sign and date the log in the outside pocket, the behavior card inside, any other forms, and return it to school on Wednesday or Thursday. All graded work must be returned to school and will be kept on file throughout the year. Any papers or student work that did not need to be signed or are not graded please keep at home.   By signing the THT Log every week you are noting that you have viewed the work and are aware of your student’s progress and behavior.

Please be a positive influence on your student’s education by making this a priority and routine. If there are any questions about the work or grades in the folder please let me know.

Behavior & Citizenship

Creating a healthy learning environment is the responsibility of everyone in our classroom. In order to have safe, productive year students must take ownership and responsibility for their behavior. In an effort to keep you informed about the choices your child is making, the students will keep track of their behavior on a card each week. On Friday I will collect the cards and check them to make sure they match my master list for the week and add any additional notes. The behavior card will go home in the Take Home Tuesday Folders for you to review, sign, and return to school. I will keep all signed behavior cards on file at school throughout the year.

Below is a copy of the card that your students will receive each week. Above the line behaviors are positive classroom actions that your student is being praised for. Below the line behaviors are unacceptable actions in the classroom and are warnings and/or actions for which your student will have a consequence. Each student and situation is unique and I will deal with each individually. I will discuss student’s poor choices with them and together we will find logical consequences.

Students are expected to show above the line behavior (be respectful, participate in class lessons, complete assignments, and follow the teachers directions) throughout the school day. Students are not to create problems in the learning environment. If a student causes a problem he/she will be asked to solve it. If he/she cannot solve the problem, or choose not to, I will to something about it. What I do depends on the problem and the situation.   If you feel something is unfair, find an appropriate time to whisper to me “I’m not sure that is fair” and we will find a time to discuss it.
